Hilo
When I told my friend Alan that I was coming to the Big Island, he asked me to preach at his church on Sunday -- here's the sermon. Here are some photos of the church. And, one of me and Pastor Alan. (I told some people that I felt like Rick Warren preaching in an Aloha shirt -- but I wore socks!)

Here's a sign I don't see where I live. (I think Dave Barry would say, "The 'Killer Falling Coconuts' would make a great name for a band.")

UPDATE: In response to a story about someone allegedly trying to rob a store using a palm frond as a weapon, I sent Dave Barry the photo below. He posted it on his blog. See: http://blogs.herald.com/dave_barrys_blog/2008/06/the-growing-pal.html

They have a nice zoo outside of Hilo. It is beautifully landscaped.

In the afternoon, Alan took me to a few of the local tourist places in Hilo. First stop was Rainbow Falls; below that is the formation called "The Boiling Pots."
